The task was to make a coatrack out of particle board. I fell in love with this diamond like geometric shape and wanted the thing to be foldable out of a single sheet.
Playing around with basic crease patterns from Peter Jacksons book "folding teqniques for designers" i found my base unit. Glueing a few of them together led to a working prototype. By fiddling around with sizes, addition and reduction, drawing and prototyping i developed the actual shape.
It is impressive how sturdy a wobbly material can become, if you just give it the right crease.
From heavy leather jackets to lightweight linon shirts, everything holds tight to the pleated pegs.
Round cutouts in the corners help the material to form the geometrie
When several layers meet in a corner, precision is key.
